Folge 5 – „Israel-deutsche Projektionen ”

A few months ago, we recorded a conversation with Ghilad Shenhav from the Center for Israel Studies at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. The discussion centered on a conference he organized in Munich, titled “Israel–Deutsche Projektionen.” In the wake of the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent war in Gaza, public discourse in Germany surrounding Israel and Palestine has become more tense and polarized than ever. One of the driving ideas behind the conference – responding to both societal and academic developments – is that this polarization is closely tied to longstanding projections and perceptions of Israel within the German context. We spoke about the current state of debate in Germany, the historical roots of these projections, and the role Christian Zionism plays in shaping them.
